The heat is on! This past week the main boiler was fired up and the long process of bringing the great room up to temperature was started. It is a wonderful even heat that feels warms even while set at a chilly 50 degrees. Work continued on the front siding. The first couple of courses are now complete and look great. Custom handmade solid Yellow Cedar doors were also installed towards the front of the building. Work also was started on the septic system. Volunteers will be needed to finish the front siding and to begin the benches and dance screens on the inside soon once the sheet rock goes up. longhouseconstruction160 longhouseconstruction173

longhouseconstruction197longhouseconstruction201The front facade is finished!

The contractor has now received the cedar wall boards for the interior of the Longhouse and they have been putting them up this week. The work continues on the other interior rooms with sheet rock, being complete very soon. The septic system is due to be completed within days as well.

We have now started on the work to apply more or our original cedar planks on the back interior wall behind the ceremonial screens.

We probably will need a few more planks cleaned in the next weekend or so to allow us to complete this work.

Plans are also underway to firm up how the ceremonial screens will be installed in time for the big celebration.

We are finalizing plans for the bleacher type bench seating. Once this is done we will price out the cost of this material and detail out a volunteer construction plan.

There is still much work to be done, but it is so exciting to see the progress taking place every week. Soon our vision and this project will be complete ready for Arrowmen and the camp to use this great new building for ceremonies, fun and fellowship.

longhouseconstruction153longhouseconstruction155We are closing in on completion of the new building! The windows are in and the ceiling is now finished. Gutters and down spouts were added to the outside. The main beams on the inside received one last cleaning as the building continues to dry out. The most exciting news is that two work parties occurred over the school break where lodge members assisted in the process. The main focuses of the work parties were cleaning the siding material from the old building so it can adorn the new structure. By the second work party we had already begun to clad the front of the longhouse with these ancient wood boards. Work parties will continue this winter as we get ready to host not only the Longhouse's grand opening celebrations but also Section W1-N Conclave.
