Longhouse Plans Released! |
|
Exciting news! The Longhouse Committee released the new plans that were approved earlier this spring at the February meeting. The current plan calls for a building that is 50' x 72'. It is modeled after the Wakashan two beam style big house with two large posts at each end of the central area supporting the weight of the roof popular along the coast of British Columbia. The immense main gallery will have room to hold 350+, a large upgrade from the 144 people capacity of the old structure. Large dressing and storage areas in the rear of the building will double as classrooms for lodge and other events. In addition, attic space will be provided for additional storage. One of these spaces will be use to house the new Lodge Museum. From the out side the structure will look very similar to the old Packard Longhouse, as we are going to use the salvaged planks from the old building. The old dance-screen and the two side screens will all be integrated into the new design.
