T'Kope Featured in New OA Painting
Wednesday, 06 February 2013 00:00
visionoffoundersmall1This summer at the 2012 NOAC the lodge was astonished at the inclusion of our old brotherhood flap in the 100th OA Anniversary painting by official BSA artist Joseph Csatari. The story behind the painting is even more remarkable. The artist chose the 5 most influential lodges in the Order's first 100 years to accompany Unami #1 in the parade of flaps. We are lucky and honored to be there. We should give our thanks to former Lodge Adviser and Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Del Loder who is the main reason for our inclusion.

The painting, Visions of the Founder, is an art piece featuring a young E. Urner Goodman explaining to two Scouts what he envisions for the Order of the Arrow. This vision is of the things of the spirit - brotherhood, cheerfulness, and service - and is depicted in the painting's background.

Limited edition prints and Glisees are available from the National OA Endowment and fully support the work of the endowment.

Since we can expect this image to be in Boys Life, Scouting and other BSA publications leading up to the 100th anniversary the lodge will celebrate our own history and be recognized as a great lodge by re-issuing the old S1 flap. We are releasing a limit number of flaps starting at the April Ordeal 2013. All proceeds from the sale of this flap will go to leadership and needs based youth scholarships to NOAC 2015 at Michigan State University where we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Order of the Arrow.

People will instantly recognize you are from T'Kope while wearing this classic flap.

The patch was the first fully embroidered flap issued by the lodge and was designed by the first Section Chief from our lodge Sam Eng. Variants of this flap were used by the lodge from the 1956 - 1998.

The lodes represented in the painting are:

Owasippe #7 - Chicago, IL
Tamegonit #147 - Kansas City, MO
Chinchewunska #440 - New Jersey
Unami # 1 - Philadelphia, PA
Anicus #7 - Pittsburg, PA
T'Kope Kwiskwis #502 - Seattle, WA
